We believe good dog training starts with proper support and that means for both ends of the lead.

This involves looking at the bigger picture, why your dog might be doing what they are doing and how we can help change or work with that to create real progress.

The Dog Who Started It All

We know what it’s like owning a reactive dog - our oldest girl Kady, is the reason we are here and the reason we do what we do.

She became very reactive as she got into her teenage phase and, unfortunately, it’s not something dogs just grow out of.

We had to learn very quickly what worked for her and how to implement that to ensure she felt relaxed on walks again. After all, our dog’s walks should be all about them and making sure they are comfortable and coping.

Our mission is to get people and their dogs back out on walks again, not furtively avoiding triggers or going out at the dead of night but proper walks in their area.

The worst thing is feeling like you have to avoid everything out of embarrassment or just not knowing what to do for your dog in the situation.

We want to arm everybody with tools to help both them and their dog to enjoy walks again.

Our Approach

As mentioned we are positive reinforcement based, but don’t believe in avoiding triggers and stress completely.

We need our dogs to be ok with experiencing these things and the only way we can get there is through small controlled exposures. If you’re stuck in avoidance hell maybe we can help you.

We want our clients to feel supported to get back to normal.

We look at dog behaviour as a whole picture and take time to learn about what happens in your dog’s daily life, their diet, their medical history and closely monitor body language.

We’ll never force your dog into situations they can’t cope with without first giving them the skills to deal with it.

Our Story

Dog’s Purpose all began with one neurodivergent human and one super reactive staffie cross.

Our founder, Luke, struggled daily with undiagnosed ADHD and poor mental health, and we welcomed a staffie cross puppy to help give some structure and purpose to his days.

Well, it turned out that our puppy was the one who needed support. She struggled with her daily walks, trying to fight with dogs and getting very frustrated on the lead.

Luke went deep into the depth of internet dog training (we’ve all been there) trying different methods and never really finding anything that resonated with him until we found positive reinforcement.

Dog’s Purpose was born and since then we’ve both become certified trainers, the ADHD has finally been diagnosed and we’re learning every day how to be better trainers and how to do better for our clients.
